    General Motors’ CEO resigns
    « on: December 06, 2009, 03:14:47 PM »

Detroit, Michigan – General Motors has announced that Fritz Henderson has resigned as director, president and CEO of the company. Chairman Ed Whitacre will fill the role of president and CEO in the interim.

The Los Angeles Auto Show announced that Bob Lutz, vice-president of marketing communications, will deliver the keynote address to open the show on Tuesday, December 2; Henderson was originally scheduled to deliver the speech.

In a statement, General Motors said that the board of directors accepted Henderson’s resignation at its monthly meeting. “Fritz has done a remarkable job in leading the company through an unprecedented period of challenge and change,” Whitacre said. “While momentum has been building over the past several months, all involved agree that changes needed to be made. To this end, I have taken over the role of chairman and CEO while an international search for a new president and CEO begins immediately.”

Whitacre said that customers, employees, dealers, supplier and union partners were assured that GM’s daily business operations will continue as normal.
